FANCY BOX: Ron Burgundy Wines
Ron Burgundy Wines is a collaboration between Boschkloof winemaker Reenen Borman, semi-famous bread guy Fritz Schoon and friend Henk Kotze. Wisely the team chose to let Reenen make the wines. A few vintages in, these wines rank among the top releases in SA every year.
From our tiny allocation of the 2020 vintage, we're making one case available for the shop, a mixed box of three reds and three whites. Details here:
3 x Sons of Sugarland Syrah
3 x Patatsfontein Steen
The Sons of Sugarland is a single vineyard, whole bunch fermented Syrah from the Karibib farm in Stellenbosch. Once pressed, the wine spends 11 months in a concrete tank and results in an intense, complex and fresh expression of the grape. Purity, strength and bags of flavour. The 2020 shows slightly brighter fruit than previous vintages.
The Patatsfontein Steen is a single site Chenin from Montagu of all places, grown on slate soils. The wine is hand picked, whole bunch pressed and matured in concrete and neutral oak barrels. Zero batonnage or 'stirring of the lees' helps to retain its stony freshness that combines with rich yellow fruit on the palate into a full finish.
