Lukas van Loggerenberg is easily one of SA's most exciting new wave winemakers at the moment whose star has risen steadily over the past few years. He was Tim Atkin's Young winemaker of the Year in 2018 and could also be the industry's nicest man.
Based in Stellenbosch, Lukas works mainly with the Loire varieties (Chenin and Cab franc) but has delved into new varieties with his Graft Syrah making waves and now a smashing Cinsault rosé in his arsenal.
Fruit for this wine comes from roughly 20-year-old vines on the so-called Firgrove farm that supplies both Craven and Scions of Sinai.
The granitic soil gives the wine a lovely structure and tannin that along with the saline finish lays an ideal dancefloor on which the red fruits can do their bouncy, lively thing. Fresh, crisp and a lot more complex than your bog standard pink.
